As a teacher, Karen enthusiastically shares her knowledge of the ancient art of Belly Dance with her students. She is a patient and creative instructor in addition to being a unique and innovative choreographer. She enjoys empowering her students with a sense of accomplishment as they learn to master the intricate moves of Belly Dance and encourages self-acceptance, self-expression and fun! Karen maintains consistent movement throughout her classes giving her students a good muscle and cardiovascular workout at the same time.

Regular belly dancing hugely strengthens and tones the core muscles. Training also helps to improve posture, stamina, flexibility and co-ordination.

 


Classes description and available level for

Belly Dance Classes :

 

 

Max 15 per class. You must reserve your spot!

 

Beginner Level I  (10 weeks) The absolute beginners course,

learn Dance and Belly Dance Basics. We will focus on hip movements, horizontal figure 8, shimmies, hand/arm techniques and walks in which you will get a thorough, safe, and gentle workout while achieving tone, balance, posture awareness, and strength.

 

 

Beginner Level II (10 weeks) level 1 required

Building on the foundation already learned in the Level 1 there will be more intricate movements learned like body undulations, Umi hip circle, vertical figure 8s, chest slides/lifts/drops, 3/4 shimmy. We will  focus on technique,  muscle development and control witch will establish your path towards dancing with strength, poise and confidence.

 

Note: At each level a  choreography is learned and as each level advances Karen will bring different dance basic and technique, 

 

After beginner level 1 and 2, Karen teaches you how to dance with accessories such as the one described below, each of these technique class are for 10 weeks.

 

Veil

Building on the movements already learned in the Level 1 and 2, we will see basic veil movements such as draping and other movements.

 

Basic Saidi Folkloric style Cane

Building on the movements already learned in the previous sessions, we will see folkloric cane twirling and accents and continue working on veil technique

 

Basic Sagattes (Finger Cymbals)

Building on the movements already learned in the previous sessions, we will see basic rhythms and combinations and continue working on veil and Saidi technique

 

Choreography (10 weeks) Class full

 

Make-up Classes:

During the 10 week session, classes missed may be made up by attending any of the same level classes.  Make-up classes must be made up before the end of the session. No refunds for missed classes. 

 

Optional

Student Recital/Showtime/Party :)

A performance gives us a fun goal to work towards.  The student show will be an informal, safe environment for dancers to feel a sense of community and fun. 

This is a great opportunity to build self confidence.  It is completely optional.

The cost for 10 weeks including music CD, informational binder and choreography is 200$.

 There is a 50$ deposit required to hold your spot.

The deposit will guaranty your spot and can be paid by check or credit card (paypal only) .

The deposit will be applied on the registration fee

You will see on the right the different nights and times to choose from.

Class attire:

Please wear exercise clothing or dance-wear.  Tight fitting stretch clothes are good for viewing muscle movements.  A scarf on the hips is helpful for hip movements but is not necessary.  

 

We usually dance with bare feet, although ballet slippers, half-soles, or sandals are quite acceptable.  Wear what makes you feel good. 

 

Please don't wear jeans or a sweatshirt (unless you forgot your dance clothes, in that case please come anyway)
